IGNOU offers two streams of courses for UG students. Bachelor Degree programmes (General) and Bachelor Degree programmes (Honours). Both these programmes are entirely different from one another.
IGNOU offers the following Bachelor’s degree (General) programmes:
- Bachelor of Arts (BAG)
- Bachelor of Commerce (BCOMG)
- Bachelor of Science (BSCG)
- Bachelor of Computer Applications (BCA)
- Bachelor of Library and Information Sciences (BLIS)(Revised)
- Bachelor of Arts (Tourism Studies) (BTS) (Revised Syllabus)
- Bachelor of Social Work (BSWG) (Revised Syllabus)
- Bachelor of Business Administration (Retailing) (BBARL)
- Bachelor of Arts (Vocational Studies) Tourism Management (BAVTM)
All IGNOU courses under the various programmes have been divided into four categories:
- Discipline Specific Core Courses (DSC)
- Discipline Specific Elective Courses (DSE)
- Ability Enhancement Compulsory Courses (AECC)
- Skill Enhancement Courses (SEC)
Under each UG Programme, there are several disciplines. Whenever students pursue the above-mentioned programmes, they have to select multiple disciplines from the same category or programme. In other words, each learner has to select the double main. For example:-
The University offers Bachelor of Arts (BAG) Degree with the following Disciplines:
- Anthropology
- Economics
- History
- Political science
- Psychology
- Public administration
- Sociology
- Mathematics
- Hindi
- Urdu
- English
- Sanskrit
- Education
- Philosophy.
If anyone wants to pursue BAG, they have to opt for at least a minimum of two disciplines from the list.
Take another example from Bachelor of Science (BSCG) The University offers Bachelor’s Degree in Science in the following Disciplines:
- Botany
- Chemistry
- Geography
- Geology
- Mathematics
- Physics, and
- Zoology. .
If anyone wants to pursue a Bachelor of Science, it is compulsory to select any three disciplines from the above list. Once chosen, he/she has to take Core Courses and Discipline Specific Elective Courses from those three Disciplines only throughout semesters.
Finally, here in the context of General Bachelors Degree programmes in IGNOU each candidate has to select multiple main papers. For example in the case of BAG, learners have to select double main and in the case of Bachelor of Science, learners have to select triple main.
