Block 1 KNOWING THE LEARNER

Block 1 focuses on the factors that influence a learner in the teaching and learning process. It focuses on the degree of intelligence, aptitude, motivation, readiness, emotional development, temperament, etc. 

Unit 1 THE LAERNER FACTOR.

Language learning is a process whereas many factors like environmental factors, infrastructural factors, and learner factors contribute their parts. The unit discusses the learner (student)factor that contributes to effective language learning.

Now let’s discuss each factor one by one.
1. Student’s readiness.
Students’ readiness to engage with a new topic influences effective learning. readiness is a situation where children are ready to receive any academic instructions given by the instructor or the teacher. In other words, readiness is a quality of a learner when he is capable to understand the lesson taught by the teacher. Environmental and circumstantial factors influence learning readiness.

2. Interest and motivation.
Interest and motivation are the other actors that contributed to the effective learning process. Language is an active process that needs to be motivated and guided to be the desired result. If the students are getting more motivated there will be more learning. Interest is also directly related to language learning. Lack of interest and motivation leads to poor learning. There can be two causes behind the lack of interest and motivation. The feeling that everything is too difficult and there is no help from teachers and students( friends)

Factors that influence learning at school.

The following are some factors that influence learning at school.

A. CHARACTERISTICS RELATED TO THE COGNITIVE DOMAIN.

  1. General scholastic ability: General scholastic ability is a mental quality or ability to understand and remember what is a various subject taught in the various classes is called scholastic aptitude or scholastic ability. The students with high scholastic ability will perform better in many activities and tests than others. But the student with this ability may not perform with the recent curriculum as it emphasizes on open-ended activities like dialogues dramatization, creating charts, sharing experiences outside the school, etc.
