BEGC-106 : POPULAR LITERATURE
Time : 3 hours Maximum Marks: 100

Note: There are three sections in this paper – A, B and C. Attempt questions from all three sections. Attempt four questions from Section A, two from Section B, and three from Section C.

SECTION- A

Write short notes on any four of the following in about 100 words each. 4×5=20

  1. Graphic Novels
  2. Young Adult Fiction
  3. Bildungsroman.
  4. Queerness and Self-identity.
  5. Crime Fiction.
  6. Cyberpunk

SECTION- B

Answer any two of the following questions about 250 words each: 2×10=20

7. Define children’s literature. Trace its development.

8. Differences between Realistic Novels and Fantasy Novels. Discuss.

9. Explain the significance of the motif of chess in Through the Looking-Glass.

9. The language in Through the Looking Glass. Discuss.

SECTION- C

10. Answer any three of the following questions about 500 words each: 3×20=60

11. What are the key elements of a bildungsroman? Comment on Funny Boy as a bildungsroman novel

12Discuss the Genres of Children’s Literature.

13Comment on gender and sexuality in Funny Boy.

14. Define Detective Fiction. Explain different types of Detective Fiction.

15. Critically comment on the narrative technique used by Agatha Christie in the Murder of Roger Ackroyd.

16. Define Science Fiction and trace the history of Science Fiction.

ABOUT THE BEGC 106 QUESTION PAPER

There are three sections in this paper, A, B and C. It is mandatory to attempt questions from all these three sections. All candidate has to attempt four questions from section A. Each question carries five marks. You have to be careful about the number of words. Attempt each question with about 100 words.
In the case of section B, it is compulsory to attempt any two, each question carries 10 marks. Each question has to be answered at least in 250 words.

In Section C, it is compulsory to answer three questions, each question carries 20 marks. Do not forget to answer each question in the least 500 words.
